Trouble is it doesn't do it all the time.

The starter spins fine but you get a metalic noise of the bendix not enguaging. Have tried cleaning it right out which seamed to work for a few starts. It seams like there is not enough force to push the bendix or the bendix could be worn out? Do they wear out?

Any advise will be welcome as i cant afford to waste money replacing parts that are ok.
