I heard that it was done at the end of the striaghts to :-

Aid cooling
Help reduce the chance of a seize when you lift off the gas, and therefore stop the lubricant
Gives you a lump of fuel to accelerate with out of the corner.

Which if all or none is correct I couldn't tell you. I never did it in other classes and I never raced Cadet
