Don't rule out pedal position. If you have adjusted your pedal rearward of centre (pedal leans backward), the greater the initial pressure required (you have a rising rate). If you have your pedal forward of centre (pedal leans forward) the lesser the initial pressure required (you have a falling rate). Ideally, the pedal should be operated close to the area of greatest linearity (pedal as vertical as possible without going over-centre during hard braking).
I haven't seen a kart on the market with adequate pedal adjustment for anybody that's differs from the average sized karter and I think this explains the wildly differing opinions on the quality of various braking systems.
