If you have ever had the pleasure of heating up crankcases to remove mains then you will notice that oil seeps out of the threads of the studs but only when its really warm. Potentially this is what you are seeing. Usually when you remove the base gaskets you can see a dark ring around where the holes are for the studs which I consider to be from this phenomenon.
