I had a simular problem with my son's comer w60 with a tryton carb it would start tickover rev at 70/80% any more it would drop off and stop, it was a worn needle and seat in the carb. Have you had it from new? How many hours on engine? when was your last FULL carb rebuild?
It does sound fuel/carb related.
