Hi Gary, some engines are like that and if you try chasing revs, you end up losing performance and your lap times suffer considerably. We had a senior that was very similar and try as we might, we just couldn't get it revving but then someone pointed out to us to play to the engine's strengths and it had phenomenal low and mid-range grunt but nothing at the top end. So, we ended up gearing it a lot higher than the other guys in our class to keep the revs down and it made a big difference. Having said that, have you tried the usual suspects: different jetting, changing the needle setting, cleaning the carb? Is the pulse pipe from the crankcase to the fuel pump OK? If this has gone soft, it collapses and doesn't allow the fuel pump to deliver properly which has been known to lose 1500 - 2000 rpm! Have you changed the fuel pump kit regularly? Have you cleaned the air filter lately? Is the exhaust blocked? Have you changed the wadding in the silencer regularly? Sorry, lots of questions but then it could be any one thing or, several things not quite right that add up to poor performance. Hope this helps
