No.... you lot are misunderstanding the differnce.

First, there IS a difference in power if you increase the rotatory mass. The clutch IS an additional mass which needs to be accelerated and decelerated./ It's nhot a HUGE difference..... but it IS a difference and you guys pay a FORTUNE to keep your enginer sdelivering maximum power.... why throw it awy?

Secondly..... it's about your carb settings....

You clutched boys need to prevent the engine from stalling when you shut down the throttle... that means that you HAVE to maintain a 'tick over' which a DD does NOT.... DD simply CANNOT stall so long as the kart is rolling.... that's not the case for clutched karts. So.... when YOU clutched lot shut the throttle... the engine is STILL running and it is STILL driving the kart forward. That causes all SORTS of additional problems, not least of which is the fact that clutched engines run for longer (as they don't shut down' and thus they run HOTTER!

However, even if they were NOT slower and/or more disadvantaged... there is the reliability problem. There is NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER that every compnent on a kart WILL fail eventually. Assuming that we all have equally bad luck.... when the lousy-luck is handed out causing ANY of the following failures, jammed/broken/slipping, oil-covered clutch.... broken/flat battery.... faulty starter button/wiring/brushes....

.... then the DD drivers will simply carry on.... the clutched drivers are B*GG*R*D.... Assuming that any ONE of those failures happens in an important final........ we can see a HUGE difference between the results of using a DD and a Clutched motor.

Still...... it IS personal taste.... If you WANT to run a clutch, I am not wanting to stop you from so doing!
