From a novice perspective:

I went TAG because I'm a one man band and I didn't want to end up going out to practise and having to worry about whether I could get the thing to start or not.

Good points are that I've started and finished every race in two meetings, I'm confident it will start if no-one wants to help me, and performance seems fine so far. I also like the fact that in the wet I'm not too worried about spinning it, as it's not an issue getting back going again after.

Bad points are the extra weight (they say 6 kg, but that's with a lightweight battery - more like 8 I reckon), the extra complexity, a small reliability issue as the CDI connector is an occasional problem. And of course it was expensive.

I'm 10 kg over the weight limit at the moment, but I'll probably stick with TAG while I work through the other trials and tribulations of getting myself and the kart on the pace and learn how to play this game. Once I'm happy I've got a decent basic setup I might try DD as I've got a DD engine, but I don't feel TAG is holding me back at the moment.
