Even the dilightful and 'old' BT82 is still a racing engine and not a 'toy'. As such, it DOES need some minor attention to keep it working.

'Hoping' that it will be the carb does not affect whether the fault IS with the carb....

The lads have been advising you to check the oil seals. These are small black rings of rubber that can be replaced from OUTSIDE the engine only requiring the 'engine man' to remove 'minor' parts of the engine in the process.

The oil seals don't JUST keep oil IN.... they prevent the engine from being able to 'breathe' through the sides of the engine as well as the carb. If these leak, the fuel/air mixture can go DISASTEROUSLY low and can promote a SERIOUS seizure in the engine which WILL be expensive to fix.

To replace those oil seals should cost under Ł30 including labour and can even be done by semi-skilled-monkeys at the trackside, if they have the right knowledge and tools plus 20 minutes spare time. The parts themselves cost about Ł8.

So..... if you want to have a happy time in karting.... don't 'hope' that a fault is something because that sounds easier.... get it checked and, potentially, save yourself a VERY large bill if you've made the wrong guess!

Yes... it COULD be the carb and/or the timing. It could even be a blocked Exhaust pipe! If any of those things are the problem, they are not so likely to cost you a lot of money as failing oil seals. Do that job FIRST! Remember, you have racing vehicle there......
