Mashed nylon gears used to be common. I reccomend you replace the 2 plastic ones ( whats left of them) with the new metal type.
Alignment is important, if you are unsure get someone wo knows how to align them correctly, don't guess. Thougherly clean out the gear chamber of old oil and debris and when using the new metal gears refil with 100 ml of oil not 50 as marked on the case.
I you also invest in the new type clutch you may well detect a ringing sound in left hand bends, Don't Panic it's normal.
