Check carefully the reeds. A chipped or poor seating reed petal will produce a very similar symtom especially when pulling away.
As it appears you have looked into the PV set up fairly extensively it may well be worth looking for other causes. You could also be experiencing a piston ring problem but I would reccomend looking at the reed block first as this is a simple task and will not require a re seal.
