Oh boy..... carb and Sprocket setting are CRITICAL in this class of motor.

Get him to post (or YOU post) his email address and I'll send him MY instructions on how to SET the carb.... it is a DYNAMIC process..... it is NOT some magic set of 'settings'.

There's no point in hitting the 'sweet spot' of max-revs on the engine..... he will not know how to USE the performance for a LONG tiume yet. Thus, get him to fit a TOO SMALL driven sprocket in the FULL knowledge he's not getting ALL the available power. Be aware that, as a rule of thumb, running 1,000 rpm under the 'ideal maximum' DOUBLES the life of the motor. In 'race trim' it will need a rebuild within 4 to 8 hours running. 1,000 rpm low, will make that 8 to 16.... 2,000 makes it 16 to 32.....3000 makes it 32 to 64hrs..... and so on.... please note, those are ROUGH figures anjd CANNOT be guaranteed...... they are just a ROUGH guide!

The setting of the carb is CRITICAL.... the power will increase the closer (leaner) he gets to 'perfect'..... and the short-term-power may ALSO increase PAST that ideal point...... but the engine will then promptly SEIZE if it's too lean....

So.... over-oil, over-gear, over-fuel.... until you want to RACE!

Ian
