The 'bright' bolts are soft.

One of the biggest problems is that people don't realise that Allen keys actually wear.

When they wear you can cut 5/16ths off the end and have a new end to work with.

Replace bolts as soon as you see signs of wear in the head, it's cheaper and less hassle than drilling out bolts.

Getting a hub bolt out isn't too difficult.

Try the Torx method first.

If the bolt thread goes all the way through, you can drill the head off and maybe use a drill from the other end to drive the remains out.

You can get extractors that are like a left hand drill and bite better that Easyouts and don't leave a big bit in the hole if it breaks.

You don't need to sacrifice your hub, especially if it's magnesium and expensive.
