New kids tend to take less speed into a corner hence they are slower out. You can compensate for this by increasing the sprocket size so that they can race with similar experienced drivers. As they get quicker drop the teeth to make them have to learn to drive the corners at the karts full potential.

The carb is also an important factor and needs to be cleaned after virtually every day out and especially if it's been wet. Grit will stop the needle seating and that's when you get excessive fuel going in and this will drop off performance top and bottom.

The carbs need gaskets on a quite regular basis to keep them sweet aswell.
