It could be the battery you are using is pants!

If it hasn't been looked after and charged fully and regularly, you can hardly expect it to be able to crank an engine.

Put it in a Max if you can and see if it will crank it over.

Thinking about it, the Rotax battery will start an engine many many times over a weekend and still have plenty of charge left.

If it can do it in a Max, it should be quite capable of cranking an engine when it's in a lightweight starter that is geared down.
