If you have sparking inside both plugs then they are both knackered, simple as. Can you try a known good plug from a lawnmower etc?? And i do mean only to see a spark and not to put into the head and try to run it up!!!!!!!!!!!
Im heading to ellough for the non mas at the end of the month and if you can get it there then i will take a look at it for you.
From personal experiance with batteries i have run my kart on a 7.2ah alarm battery from maplins (Ł9) with no trouble before. But others will tell you the pitfalls of racing with a cheaper battery and getting let down by it breaking inside. So i wenyt out and bought a lucas version from dartford karting over 18months ago for around Ł30 posted, and its never given me any trouble yet. Not sure what they sell nowadays but this one is a good un.
