You can run it on the stand but the trouble is you will quickly foul the plug with it ticking over. Try to maintain approx 3,ooorpm so it is burning rather than over fueling and putting you back to square one if you get my drift. Maybe drag the brake a little with your hand on the brake pedal to induce some load also. Dont do this for extended periods though, maybe a couple of mins at best.
