There is no difference in the operation of the diffrent pistons. Originally the piston was operated by a fork attached to a solenoid and cable, which is why the backplate looks asymetrical with a hole in it. The fork fitted around the piston and pivoted on the two lugs to the right of the piston to control the valve according to engine load. Keep the one you have, the length measurement is the same when you set it up with a vernier.
