Matt, just do as others have sugested and stick the 165 jet in a Denso IW27 plug (forget about the gap unless its been bashed)! and go learn how to drive the thing properly. Whilst your local airfield may well prove that it starts and drives try to avoid such venues and stick to proper kart circuits which are designed specifically for purpose, there is far more chance of terminal damage to the kart on a wide open location than within the confines of a circuit as you have little to referance your speed against in the open and thus it is also less rewarding in thrill terms. Remember 95% of the joy of karting is the corners not outright speed.
You may well get people asking you the classic question 'how fast does it go mate?' which is the very point of driving on the circuit. How fast it laps is far more relevent. For example when posed with the how fast question what do you say 70 or 120? both could be true with gearing however if geared for 120 it would be a slug around a kart circuit however a correctly geared kart on a circuit enabling top lap performance is the real joy of karting.
