Thanks for the replies,

What I meant was, that some believe the position of the "open end" of the plug (that not shielded by the earth electrode) has a bearing on performance.

So if rotating the head brings the "open end" nearer to where it is thought an advantage may be found, some may experiment.

It is well known that plugs with three side electrodes give better flame spread than one over the central electrode, as they reduce the masking caused by the one electrode.

I don't think "LOL" contributes much to the debate.
