I bet it was done that way because the clamp moulding was done by injection and the main cone is blown, with the clamp already in place in the blow mould.

It wouldn't be difficult to make a breakaway unit that would hold the nosecone, the expense would come in getting it CIK homologated. Or the fact that when it broke away one was left with bits protuding from the kart.

Then you would complain that the breakaway clamp was a plot to enrich the clamp maker.

IT was a system that worked and hasn't been modified rather than a conspiracy.
