Talking to Alan Turney at some length on this very issue on Sunday. His thoughts are that there will be very little advantage in using the 50mm over the 30mm axle. He also correctly pointed out that seeing as 30mm hollow axles come in Soft/Medium/Hard compounds, they pretty much cover all conditions. When I asked him why he had fitted a 50mm axle to the kart on display, he told me it was because that is what prospective buyers want to see, as it is seen as more 'sexy'!! Can't comment on the 40mm axle, as it didn't come up in our coversation.
