Assuming you're on the same tyres, the kart with the lower weight will corner faster and brake faster.

Think of an F1 car with 700BHP at 600kg. Compare it to one with 1400BHP at 1200kg. Which one will corner faster and brake faster on the same tyres?

That's the pseudo-scientific reason (in reality you'd swap around depending on how hard you were working the tyres although I still reckon the lighter kart would be quicker). My reason is because the kart will be 4kg lighter making it easier to lug about.
