We've found that the new 'O' ring and short bearing does prevent MOST lube on the needle cage from getting into the clutch proper. However, a small amount does get through. Additionally, depending on which chain lube you utilise, some of this gets into the clutch through the tiny gap between the drum edge and the backplate lip - this shows up later as an almost-black dusty deposit.
It's not really a worry though - I have applied a small amount of bearing grease to the needle cage at the start of a weekend and not touched it until Sunday evening - there was no clutch slip and this was comfirmed by the Unilogger.
I am a bit concerned that the new, shorter bearings might be exacerbating the breakage of the new clutch shoe block. If I'm not mistaken the drum 'wobbles' a bit more on the shorter cage. Any thoughts on this?
