there are many people who passionately want to see the class flourish. As a parent of 2 juniors we have invested a great deal both financialy and in time for their racing I think The TKM class is brilliant but it does need to compete commercially and I can see that Tal-ko are having to make adjustments in line with the potential new customer demands without hopefully alienating their existing customers. I don't want to have to spend loads more either to comply wih new regs.
Just think for a minute ........the parent of 12 year old goes to a kart showroom and looks at a minimax and a junior TKM side by side. The minimax is faster , sticks on the track easier , takes less driving experience ( just my opinion before anyone shouts ), kid just jumps in and flicks a switch , doesn't need pushing to get it going , you send it away for rebuilds once in a blue moon , it looks like a racer and the start up costs are probably not that much difference between the 2 . The TKM on the other hand is simpler mechanically , not so hard on tyres , you can do your own rebuilds and is great fun with undoubtedly skilled driving required on the less grippy( longer lasting ) tyres . Dad scratches head and says he's not sure " Which one would you like ?" kid says "the one that goes the fastest " choice made - as the meerkat would say "simples".
What we need to do as TKM afficionados is find a way of competing with the misinformation about the class to new entrants but we also have to allow Tal-ko to make some reasonable commmercial decisons that won't cause us too much of a financial problem but get more people to join us . You know what happened to the dinosaurs.
