hello there
at the weekend i experienced some issues with the starter motor on the engine.
firstly i will describe the situation. the weather for heat three was truly miserable and everyone went out with a wet setup(New style airbox set in dry condition setting with trumpets down). so did i and the engine started great and off i went. during the race, whilst braking, sometimes when i locked the rears the engine cut out and i would be effectively rolling down the track without power. however if i pressed the throttle the engine would fire back up and i would continue. this happened somewhere between 3 and 5 times during the race. upon returning to the pits and changing the setup the engine would not start. pressing the starter button nothing would happen. this was diagnosed as the starter failing. a second starter was plugged in and earthed to the engine and the starter spun.
right then one question is did locking up the rears causing the engine to die and restarting it by "giving it a bootfull" damage the starter motor.
how do you repair the starter motor
also i use the rotax battery power input on the mychron and at best this reads 12.9 on my fully charged battery. when the problems occurred the battery voltage was at about 12.5. would it be wise to buy a new battery.
many thanks for reading and any advice will be greatly appreciated
thanks
adrian
