James did not start karting until he was 10 1/2 and probably started on the carb about 6 moths later but we were out every weekend so he was getting lots of track time.
We have not run an Intrepid but acouple of years ago a few of the faster Stars/S1 lads started using them but then switched back to Zip. From memory it was to do with the brakes as they reckoned they were difficult to keep adjusted and would not always release quickly after breaking.
If there is a more experienced driver at your local track it could be worth asking them to take your kart out for a session to see if they go better or can give you some feedback. James seems to do that quite often now and will often spot some adjustments that help.
If you can make the journey down to rissington for one of our meetings then Martin will always discuss settings with you and watch your lad on track.
