Sometimes, its unavoidable, you have sort of a tenth of a second to react and naturally you brake and swerve. If I have a little more time to think, I naturally try to keep my foot down and aim for the place the kart is spinning from. (Assuming the kart spins across the track).

Sometimes its just potluck, sometimes braking can make it worse (you can get hit up the bum and spin yourself, then the person behind spins.... then red flag etc.). I think you should tell your driver to just react in whatever way feels natural, instinct can play quite a roll in these kind of situations.
