My rotax came with a B barrel (the biggest) but a 53.98 piston... is this normal?

Last weekend I put on an 09 barrel in the A size, but left the same piston (builder said he hadnt had any issues doing this before). But it took 50+ laps to be able to rev past 11500rpm, and still feels tight. Conversely (and not surprisingly), with the B barrel, it revved fine almost immediately after a single short run-in.

I'm probably going to pop it open tonight to check the state of the piston. Anyone want to take any bets on whether there's any teflon left on the piston? :\
