Hi buckrg. To check your reeds you will need to remove the reed block held on by the 5 allen bolts that mount the carb connector. Thia will be a major problem if you are a Jnr or minimax as they will be covered by the seal on the motor, however Snr max is not sealed on the reeds so no problem in removing.
If you have the unsealed motor remove the block and check for damaged reed petals. even a seemingly ingignificant chip on the end of one of the petals (6)is likely to be the cause of the problem. I had exactly this problem late last season and allthough the reeds looked perfectly ok on first inspection a new reed block was the cure. When making a more detaild check of the old petals one of them had a small amount of damage on the end.
