Rob, I did 42hours on my Rotax first build! In them days (only 3 years ago) even the clutch was made from proper stuff, that first one lasted close to 25hours on a staple diet of only brake/clutch cleaner.
Having read a couple of recent threads I wish I didn't even give it that! LOL

There's a guy at Dunks with a '99 engine which he bought recently as an outfit. He asked JAG for the engine history and was told that it still is on the first seal! I drove it last weekend and it still pulls like the clappers! We'll never know how many hours that engine has done, but I can guess it has well over what my '06 engine had at the first build!

So, if you want reliability and piece of mind you can do very little better than a Rotax! As long as you feed it the right stuff, do the regular stuff to it, you will get many hours out of it! Remember that Rotax recommend maximum 50hours between rebuilds! That can be translated in: guaranteed 50hrs! It isn't guaranteed to 50hrs, but a good indication of what the engine can do and regularly does!
