..a valid or reliable check.
As someone else said ..what if the grid area is on a slope ?
It is not unusual for "slippy" clutches to "drag" enough to move the kart even at tickover .
No, that is why the "piece of wood" is required, to give a positive consistent resistance to test against.
I cant understand why this proven check is not being used ?
