You may have dislodged one of the rubber buffers that the shoes sit on in the rest position.

The buffers are complete poo and I use silicon hose that the car boys use and cut it to the appropriate size.

Lasts forever and doesn't stretch.

Check that the drum hasn't got a split in it.

How did you assemble the clutch and get the springs on.

That will give me a clue as to the problem.
