It wasn't strictly a bump start because I still used the electric starter - the marshall just happened to be pushing it when it happened to fire up and I was lucky it just kept on going.
The clutch is fine and the real wheels and clutch drum spin freely on the stand.

I'm sure the problem is more to do with the carb.
It won't idle on a stand either but the idle screw is in the correct position. (I had some chaps take a look at it but all were stumped)

Is it possible that it could be a weak battery? The battery was not fully charged and got heavy use with frantic attempts to restart the kart.
