Don't bend the arms.

bend the tab that rests on the float needle.

But first, take the float arm unit out, making sure you don't lose the float needle and carefully examine the underside of the tab.

The plating can flake and wear.

If it does, it can give the wierdest carb faults, one of which is flooding.

Only .bend the needle tab a very small amount
