The missing punctuation makes it hard to understand what you are saying. I can't tell where one 'phrase' ends and the next one begins. Remember, YOU may understand what you write but the idea is to get US to understand it!

However.....

A TKM without a clutch is USUALLY set up to have 'no tickover' (by that I assume you mean, it stalls if you don't keep opening the throttle). We (Direct Drive TKMs) don't NEED to 'tick-over' as the engine CANNOT stall if the kart is still rolling. However, it's NOTHING to do with rate of accelertation, it's because it lets the engine cool on the 'over-run' sections (braking) of the track as the engine actually stops FIRING!.

With a Clutch, you HAVE to have a 'tickover' or else it will STALL on over-run..... and it doesn't GET the chance to cool on 'over-run'... another reason I don't lilke clutches.

Put crudely... your friend is BONKERS! He doesn't gain ANYTHING from what he does! Why...? Because you GIVE an engine a 'tick-over' by, effectively, JAMMING the throttle open a bit (a small screw stops the carb from closing completely). Thus your engine doesn't have a CLUE if it 'has a tick-over' or not IF you are GIVING it a 'tick-over' by using the throttle!

So... having a 'tick-over' is EXACTLY (errrr.... utterly IDENTICAL!) the same for him as holding the trottle open a FRACTION by hand.

A good rule is also... never listen to motorcyclists! They are BONKERS anyway! They are just riders of big mopeds... in MY opinion!
