Booney is DEAD right!

However.... the process is do the EASY stuff first!

1) Sparks the EASIEST one.
2) Then see if you ARE getting fuel to where it SHOULD be, the CYLINDER!

a) If the plug is wet after trying to start it.... it's flooding... . disconnect fuel lines, empty carb, spin the motor with the plug OUT (but earthed!)... that will eject quite a bit of the fuel and oil. The reconnect all EXCEPT the fuel.... and then use 'Easy Start' (Yellow and Black spray can of almost neat ETHER from Halfords etc..) This is one pice of kit you should ALWAYS have with you as it is a BRILLIANT cleaning solution/spray)... Spray in through the carb JUST before you try to start it. Easy-Start will often make an almost COMPLETELY flooded engine fire... even WITHOUT at spark as it can combusts from just the compression.... When it fires reliably (it won't RUN on easy start as there won't be enough there!), reconnect the fuel, bring up the fuel and try again.

b) If the plug is DRY and and it won't start... you CANNOT be flooded.... choke it properly and try again!

4) Finally if it WON'T fire on a completely 'dried' engine using ONLY Easy-Start is 'combustible material', then there is some thing VERY wrong with your spark or you have a hole in your piston, etc..

Ooooooohhhh.......... 4 words of warning about EasyStart:-

1) Don't inhale a lot of it; god KNOWS what it does to you!
2) Do NOT USE IN CONFINED SPACE..... that stuff is EXTREMELY inflamable.... open he DOORS before using it!
3) Do NOT smoke near it, use it near an open fire, gas heater etc.. Use you common SENSE with this stuff! It is DESIGNED to be VERY flammable!
3) It is a VERY good 'solvent' of oils....used TOO much, it can wash ALL the oil off your piston etc.... and then, if you DON'T have 'real fuel' coming in, you are running an UN-lubricated engine....
Like all good 'tools', it may be BRILLIANT but it does carry RISKS..... just like pen knives have 'good' and 'bad' actions, too!

Ian

The answer is 'Easy Start'!

Ohh... it also starts diesels where there 'glow plugs' (cylinder heaters, cold-start-circuits, etc.) have failed.... I found that tip INVALUABLE on many breakdowns!
