It's a normal righthand thread.

If you haven't got a piston stop or a clutch holdig tool, there is a slot on the crankcase that you can use with a very large flat blade screwdriver to hold the backplate.

Just make sure you use lots of down force so that it doesn't slip.

Look out for the washer under the nut AND the washer that will get stuck on the back of the clutch drum as you pull it off.

Clean and lube the needle roller if it is fitted.

I use a dab of Vaseline as I've found it works best and stays put.

Refit the nut with a new washer under it if there is a ridge worn in it.

Use a thread lock fluid on the nut and a good pull on the 17mm spanner will be enough, or 30Nm if you have a torque wrench.

If you are going from a 12 or 13 sprocket to an 11, remember that the washer that fits under the nut is smaller in diameter and if you use the wrong size, the chain will 'clatter' over the edge and ruin both.
