I assume you're talking about the big-end bearing ? (ie the bearing between the rod and the crank)

Unless you know how many hours it has done you would be well advised to replace it (and the pin). It's about £25 for the parts and about £15 to fit and re-balace.

If it goes it will take the rod with it as a minimumm (£90+) and you'll still need to spend the £40 above for the bearing/pin/etc. If the bearing is at the end of it's life it will still go bang at 9k rpm the only difference between it going at 9k and 15k is how much more of the engine it takes out at the higher revs !!

Even though you're practicing you should still be looking for at least 14-15k rpm.
