A properly executed floating disc arrangement will only have lateral movement. On our race cars, when changing discs, we always change the bolts and "bobbins" too. If you use old bobbins you risk elongating the mounting holes in the disc (which also elongate over time).

Regarding your system, this movement you have noticed may be normal. However, it is not ideal. In karts, I prefer a fixed disc purely for simplicity.
