Ihave just bought a gearbox kart which was in a broken down horse trailer covered in rubbish and discarded timber and bits of furniture and a lot of dust but dry.It is air-cooled with the engine on the left mounted on Stratos mounting plates. The Kart is a black STRATOS [stickers on frame] with Brembo brakes, split rim wheels fitted with Bridgestones.
The first thing I did was examine it generally.Under all the muck it appears to be in immaculate condition. Next I removed the head and barrel and was amazed to find the bore and piston very slightly discoloured with no blow-by marks. Not looked at bottom end yet but seems to turn over very smoothly. The gearbox had plenty of clean oil present. I have yet to drain the box to look for any tell tale metal bits. The only identification marks on the whole engine is ROTAX in very small print marked on the barrel deep inside the fins. On the top of the gearbox casing under the exhaust outlet is marked 00226. The top of the piston has 53.95 stamped on it.
The spark plug fitted and the spares are B9EV.
The rear axle is 30mm dia
As I am a complete novice and would like to renovate the machine I would really appreciate some help from you experienced gearbox lads for the following:
1-The engine size [and also the year for interest].
2-All the wiring is connected up to a rev counter and a silver rectangular box marked KROBER, What is this box?
3- The wiring diagram on top of this box says 12 VOLT BATTERY.There is a battery box bolted to the floor tray under the seat but what battery do I need?amps/hour etc.I dont want to put one on that will be wrong and damage the electrics.
4-How much gearbox oil should I put in?
5-What will the petrol/2stroke oil mix be?
This kart looks like it has just been driven off a track and laid-up as everything is connected and there is absolutely no play or wear in the steering column rose joints etc or the king pins and axle bearings. Obviously the brakes will need freeing off but that is about all.Hope someone can help me with these questions as it is a good worthwhile project if I have the basic info.
Thanks David
