Reducing the setup options and allowed parts won't make things cheaper for anybody. Using all the standard parts supplied with a new kart you can run at front running pace. There is only a handful of people that can derive a benefit from all these other superfluous items and those are the ones that:
a) Can understand the theory well enough b) Understand how to test c) Understand how to apply (a) and (b) to go faster
Most can't do any of the above, let alone apply all three. The benefit most people see is typically all in the head. Stop worrying about what all the "money-men" are doing and focus on your driving and preparing the kit you have to the best of your ability and you will achieve success.
I agree with what someone stated below. It's up to the experienced guys to educate others. Too many newcomers are put off by so called "racers" spreading the myth that unless you have loads of money, you'll never be successful in karting. How many times have you heard people convince themselves they're being beaten because Driver X is spending more money? It's total nonsense.
