Maybe the regs should be changed to eliminate the head volume check and replace it with a more simplified set of checks (to keep the class able to be checked by the diy'r).

How about :-

1) Head must comply (or be larger) than the head shape gauge.
2) Squish to be a minimum of 35th.

Surely, if those are applied to a standard bore engine then anything larger by default gives a greater head volume.

(or am I having a senior moment ?)
