Hi Andy, Matt's Dad Dave here(35 Honda). Having gone through the mill with both of the boys and learning sometimes the most expensive way, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself about what your plans are. This will help you decide what direction you should lean towards. With Shaun we started with a second hand Kosmic T7 which was about 4 years old as I knew he would crash regularly to start with. The view was to upgrade the chassis once his driving had improved. We purchased a Tonykart EVXX a couple of months ago because of good input from the RL race team and their help with setting it up has helped him even more. Reason for Tonykart is the accessibilty of spares at most tracks we go to. As everyone does, we carry some ourselves but you can't stock everything! Cost wise all the major manufacturers are around the same price. Engine side you have to be very careful if you go second hand. You MUST make sure you get a sealed engine, identity card and service book with a second hand engine. Ensure that all the engine/seal numbers correspond in all the documents. We bit the bullet and bought a new one from Steve Ogden who is one of a handful of good rotax agents in the UK. This was only because the second hand ones at the time were only 20-25% cheaper than the new one. Speak to Steve Armstrong next time you are at Beccles and he can explain in detail what you need to be looking for. Well done to Oliver for winning the B final at Kimbolton. Dave
