Hi Philip,
As you know we run WTP and aren't "blessed" with the Tryton carb, but as both types are really "born-again Tillotsons" you may be interested in one of my carbs problems.
When running one particular carb out of fuel, I noticed it spat petrol back from the feed pipe on the red plastic banjo. I re-kitted the carb, but the problem persisted.
On closer examination, I found that one of the fuel ports in the upper casting wasn't quite sealing on the gasket. I tried the casting on other carbs, and found the problem followed the casting: so as is to be expected, there are small differences in the castings.
On the WTP carb (and the Tryton?) the middle casting has a raised lip around the various ports. After the gasket has been fitted, the lip will leave a clear "witness mark" which will indicate any areas where the seal is incomplete.
I'm sure you know, but for the benefit of other WTP teams who may read this, we use the Tillotson DG-5-HL diaphragm and gasket set on our WTP carbs, which have a price advantage of about 50%. We get ours from UK Kartparts.
See you at Wombwell this coming weekend.
Dave.
