Since these engines are used mostly for light aircraft of various kinds, they certainly did take off – sorry.
Yes, on a kart nothing will ever come close to the quality of driving experience (though electric will be interesting when it comes); frankly, everything else feels thoroughly ordinary in comparison. It would certainly be very disappointing to return to driving anything else.
Before 2009, the MSA was perceived – only perceived, as it turned out – as a barrier to racing aixros. Then AIM Motorsport proved all that profoundly wrong with their race series blazing the trail for what is meanwhile an established IKR market.
Racing XR50 (& XR30) is now organised by DART Motorsport.
So much has changed in UK karting in the past 10 or so years; not least that so few now talk karting on dedicated forums like this or the other one, the positive ‘branding’ of IKR (which, now ironically, stemmed from a big forum discussion), or that the ABkC – once a prominent actor – appears to have retired. This is also a sign-off from a previously active, verbose type like me – while still owning and enjoying an aixro XR50, though feeling too old to race anymore. I can be PM’d via the other forum for any more specific questions in this regard.
