I think what you need is a Rotax-EVO, it has levelled the playing field a great deal, and second-hand EVO packages are now turning up around your budget range.
They key parts are the EVO-Barrel has the ports cast via laser-sintered sand cores, which is a very consistent process, all EVO-coils, EVO-exhausts and EVO-carbs are "apparently" the same.......much unlike before, where you needed a special year for each......for sure I'm sure the EVO gear varies a bit, but my overall point being the window of variability is now much smaller than ever before, this is why some engine builders don't like Rotax anymore, as they can easier rip you off in all X30 classes......just like the good old days of £15-20K Rotax S1 motors
