not sure I'd recommend taking a novice 7 year old to PFi.....his local track is Forrest Edge, thats more than good enough, and probably 5-6 hour drive to PFi, no need to travel that far, if you want a proper drivers track experience I'd drive to buckmore or bayford.
agree about the neck brace, we used to wear a foam one, and they really restrict movement, then we ran a leatt....we once rolled the kart and my lad broke his right upper arm into 4 pieces, there is a school of thought that the leatt caused the arm fracture, but as his helmet was royally smashed into the tarmac you could argue that it prevented a spinal injury, and after major surgery to manipulate his arm back together, it was all fixed in a few months......so really you have to make the choice, but as said above, there is no evidence that says a neck brace is a must for karting......
neck braces have been argued too many times on this forum, your his dad, you make the choice on what you feel is safest......my honest feeling is the foam neck braces are truly awful and will cause your kid to walk and drive like a michelin-man with no neck movement whatsoever - mucky
I run my 6 year old in a bambino and we run no form of neck brace, and I still have the Leatt but wont use it just yet, as it just does not appear necessary.......he has had plenty of shunts already and no neck pains yet
