Sounds like the bearing in the clutch drum is seizing up.
These are normally a needle roller bearing and the sleeve it runs on can be damaged if you clamp up the clutch tight wihout fitting the special washer on the crank before fitting the clutch.
You can try fitting the clutch with end float by putting a washer (bit less than 3/4inch outside dameter) on the crank end under the clutch retaining washer and bolt.
Some clutches have a plain bearing instead of the needle roller which may respond to a drop of oil in the right place, but still needs the clutch fitting with end float (bodge) or using the shaped washer on the crank.
We don't have a trike section but we do have a four stroke forum....
