Went to watch some enthralling racing at Ellough park today and witnessed racing with these new drop down bumpers.
I have a couple of questions if anyone has the answers.
1. The drivers had to enter the dummy grid with the bumpers loose and fix them in place in front of an official. I understand this, but what I don't understand is why having fixed them in place, a driver moves to their respective grid position at which point a pair of 'mole grip' type tools are produced by their team and further "fixing/adjusting" then takes place. I would have thought that once fixed in front of the official,no further fixing should be allowed ? Or is it ?
2. I watched the final and saw the face of the poor race winner drop as he was told he was being penalised due to his bumper having dropped down. It transpires that the winner 'driver a' had been spun round by 'driver b' and left facing the wrong way on the circuit, to be hit head on by 'driver c' causing the bumper to drop down.
I u derstand the need to stop deliberate hitting from behind, but if a drivers bumper is dislodged through no fault of his own, I would have thought there would have been some pragmatism ? Or not ?
